Dr. Amy Wilson, DVM, Ottawa, ON
My name is Amy Wilson and I am a small animal veterinarian in Ottawa. Having the ability to have a tangible effect on animal health and welfare is one of the best things about being in veterinary medicine. Through my work and volunteer activities, I have seen the crucial role that companion animals have in bettering people’s lives, especially when people are faced with social, emotional and economic hardship. In 2016, I volunteered on the NSNP clinics at Neskantaga and Webequie. The trip was a great experience – I enjoyed meeting the people from these First Nations, and was impressed by the sweet but very tough spirit of the northern dog. It was privilege to visit and work with these Northern communities and I appreciate how hard the volunteers from the NSNP work to make these trips possible.
