Dr. Pauline Van Veen, DVM, North of 50 Remote Mobile, Barrie ON
Hi, I’m Pauline van Veen DVM. I graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1982. I have always had a passion for the north and a strong interest in the people who live there. I am also passionate about volunteerism and people who share that passion with me. I always wanted to do spay/neuter clinics on the reserves but it was not until I worked at Barrie Veterinary Hospital that I got the support that allowed me to get my remote license. At the same time, I met the women who ran Finding Them Homes. This is a group of strictly volunteers who had established connections in the north. They were also eager to offer spay/neuter/vaccine clinics. We wanted to help the communities who had overpopulations of dogs and very limited access to veterinary care. We are all hard workers and have helped many hundreds of dogs and their owners. They introduced me to Nikki of the Northern Spay Neuter Program and I worked at their first clinic in Wunnumin Lake. Since September of 2015, we have held a number of NSNP clinics and I look forward to working with them on many more in the future.
